As many of you already know, I used to write for Yahoo and Examiner, Inquistr, a bunch of other news sites, and private clients within my 12 years of writing online. However, Yahoo went to experts in certain industries only, Examiner sadly closed down, Inquistr wasn't working out. The bunch of news websites I wrote for either shut down after a while or something happened where it didn't work out for me.
As for private clients, I am seriously done with them for now on because they suck at paying what I want and what I am worth and you have to write what they want you to write for them. That also sucks.
Now, I am a writer on
Medium. And, I absolutely love writing on the platform. Here are many reasons why:
- You can write about whatever you want. If you want to write what you are passionate about, Medium is the best site to do it on.
- They now pay you to write for their platform through the Medium Partner Program. However, it does take some time to build up the audience you need to make a decent living with them. But, with that being said, I know several people on the platform making more than a living with Medium. They have been able to make their dreams come true while writing on the site. How awesome is that?
- You can meet other, like-minded writers and become friends with them, follow them, sign up for their newsletters, and they will follow you back and maybe even sign up for your newsletter.
- You can build an email list with Medium by placing a call-to-action for people to sign up for your email newsletter list. You can place this CTA at the bottom of your story (that is what Medium calls articles and essays) as long as you are not trying to sell anything in your story. '
- Medium is ad-free so your readers won't be bombarded with ads when reading your work.
- Medium literally motivates you to write every day. You will wake up every day not being able to contain your excitement to get something written on there.
There are plenty more reasons to write on Medium that I can't think of right now except for the fact that many of the top writers there have gone on to become best-selling authors and have published their work in a book or two or more with an agent and a traditional publisher who signed them because they wrote on Medium.
I know one woman who is a top writer there who received a book deal but declined because she doesn't want that kind of fame. I understand that and probably would too....but then again, maybe not!
Signing up and writing on Medium is free for anyone and you can read three stories on there per month for free too. However, I highly recommend signing up for the Medium membership that only costs $5 per month or $50 per year where you will get access to unlimited reading on the site. And, believe me, you will want unlimited reading once you start reading the stories by other writers on there. I am totally addicted to both writing on the site and reading others work. It truly is an amazing site to be a part of.
